Volunteer Activities
- 2020-Present. Kit Coordinator and Online Content Developer with the Scientific Research and Education Network: I am volunteering with a graduate student-run organization that connects North Carolina educators with scientific researchers to implement original lesson plans based on active scientific research programs. My role has been to 1) design and source materials for low-cost kits that are sent to educators to accompany lesson plans and 2) develop covid-era online content to instruct researchers on how to author original science-based lesson plans..
- 2019-Present. Mushroom Cultivation Workshops: With other members of the Vilgalys lab, I have assisted in organizing mushroom cultivation workshops open to the public where we teach participants the basics of fungal biology and how to grow their own gourmet mushrooms at home.
- 2018. Hunter Park GardenHouse Volunteer: I served as a volunteer at a local community garden that supported various educational programs teaching community members about sustainable agriculture.
